# Betterlab > Betterlab partners with scientists, inventors, and the institutions that hold their patents on proven science in human and planetary health. It designs what the discovery should become, builds a venture around it with the people who made the science, and sells or licenses that venture to companies with the manufacturing and reach to bring it to scale. Betterlab is not a design studio and does not sell design services. It takes equity in the ventures it builds. It does not manufacture and does not operate the companies after they transact. Site: https://betterlab.com Tagline: Bringing Science to Life. ## What Betterlab does Science establishes what is possible. A patent is written to survive examination, not to be understood — precise about the claim, silent on the product. What is missing is the product itself: the form the science should take, the position it should hold against alternatives, and the reason a market would want it. Betterlab supplies that. The design work it produces is intellectual property in its own right, held by the venture alongside the science. Once the value is legible, the venture is sold or licensed to a manufacturer or strategic buyer. Often what is new is not the science but where it goes. A patent claims one application while the science is capable of others no one thought to write down. The largest opportunity for a technology frequently lies outside the field in which it was discovered. ## What Betterlab looks for - A patent, issued or pending, on science that is proven rather than theoretical - An application in human or planetary health - A barrier that is design rather than further research - Something that must be made — a device, a tool, an object, a system - The product itself does not need to exist yet ## Recognition - Fast Company World Changing Ideas Awards, 2022 — Honoree - Fast Company Innovation by Design Awards, 2022 — Honoree ## Founder Todd Bracher.
